How to change lyrics in Suno with Replace Section

Published September 19, 2026. Official documentation checked on the same date.

If a song works except for one phrase, try Replace Section before generating the entire song again. Suno documents it for Pro and Premier subscribers. Select the passage, revise its lyrics, generate alternatives and choose a result for the full song. Source: Can I replace a section of a song?.

The practical task is to make the new phrase fit the surrounding performance. A correct word with a jarring entrance may still be the wrong take.

Choose the edit that matches the problem

Your goal Where to start
Fix a lyric in the middle Replace Section or Edit Lyrics.
Try a different musical treatment of a passage Replace with a local direction.
Continue past the current ending Extend.
Explore a completely different song concept Save the current take, then create another version.

Keep a note of the original song link and the passage you intend to change. That gives you something concrete to compare after the edit.

Select the phrase and change its lyrics

In Suno's Song Editor, highlight the region and choose Edit Lyrics. Revise the text in Replace Lyrics, then use Replace Section to regenerate the passage. For a musical change, use Replace and a local prompt. The editor supports previewing alternatives and adjusting the boundary between old and new audio. Source: Song Editor.

Our suggestion is to select a complete sung phrase first. If the wrong word sits between connected syllables, an extremely narrow selection may make the transition harder to judge. Listen to the entrance and the release of the phrase, then adjust the selection if needed.

Keep the first correction small

Consider this original lyric example:

Original: We follow the fire into the dawn
Revision: We follow the light into the dawn

The example changes one short word. It gives you a focused first comparison; it does not guarantee the same melody or delivery. Pasting a much longer replacement would introduce another question about how the words fit the available phrase.

If your editor offers a local instruction box, this is a starting request to adapt:

Keep the intimate lead delivery and sparse accompaniment.
Make the revised line clear and connect it naturally to the next phrase.

These examples are untested writing drafts. Keep lyrics in the lyric field and musical instructions in the relevant prompt field. See where each field belongs.

Check the edited audio in context

Listen from before the selected passage through the next line. Compare four things: the new words, rhythmic placement, vocal character and the transition back into the original.

If the words are correct but the voice changes abruptly, do not immediately rewrite the lyrics again. Keep the correction fixed and compare another take or boundary. If the words are rushed, shorten the line before testing a different musical direction.

What does v6 change?

The v6 launch announcement includes natural-language section edits and individual lyric changes among its capabilities. Use those controls where they appear in your account; the announcement does not mean that typing a request into any lyric box performs an audio edit. Source: v6 release notes.

Common questions

Will every sound outside my selection stay identical?

This guide does not promise sample-identical preservation. Keep the original version and listen beyond both boundaries before accepting the edit.

Should I also change the model and sliders?

Start with the lyric correction alone. A model switch adds another source of variation. Use one-variable iteration to keep the result understandable.
