How to use your own voice in Suno with Voices

Published September 19, 2026. Official documentation checked on the same date.

Use Voices when you want to create songs with a reusable profile of your own voice. Set up and verify the profile first, then test it with a simple song brief. Ordinary audio uploads and a verified Voice profile are different workflows.

Create and verify a Voice

In Create, open Add Voice → Create Voice, then record or upload your voice. Suno's guide accepts recordings from 15 seconds to four minutes and lets you select up to two minutes. Preview the selection, choose Use Voice, read the verification phrase aloud, and save the profile. For a song, select the saved Voice, add your lyrics and style, and confirm the compatible model before generating. Source: Voices setup guide.

Complete verification with your own voice. If the recording is unclear, make a fresh take before repeating the same setup with the same file.

Prepare a reference you can judge

Suno recommends a quiet recording space, suggests aiming for at least a minute, and encourages trying genres that suit the recorded voice. Source: six tips for Voices.

Our suggested preparation is to choose a short passage you can repeat comfortably. Keep a copy of the source recording with a useful name such as “soft verse reference,” so you know which performance you are evaluating later. Decide whether the important quality is gentle phrasing, a rough edge or a more projected delivery.

Start with an arrangement that makes the lead easy to hear. This original Style example is a draft to adapt, not an audio-tested preset:

Gentle acoustic pop, fingerpicked guitar, restrained bass,
light percussion, a close lead vocal with clear phrasing,
minimal backing harmonies in the first verse.

Keep the first lyric passage short enough that you can compare the same phrase across takes. After you recognize a useful vocal direction, expand the arrangement in another version.

Check model compatibility instead of copying an old version number

The March Voices FAQ refers to v5.5, while Suno's September model-switching guide tells users to confirm feature compatibility in the current selector. Use the Voice-compatible option shown in your account, rather than treating the older version number as a current requirement. Sources: Voices FAQ and current model selector guidance.

This distinction matters when you follow a video recorded before the v6 rollout. The setup idea may still apply even when its model label has changed.

Diagnose the result before changing everything

What you notice A focused next experiment
The voice is hard to hear Reduce competing parts in the style brief.
The delivery feels wrong for the song Change the vocal direction while keeping the reference fixed.
The same flaw appears in your source recording Make a cleaner reference, keeping the song brief stable.
Only one lyric is wrong Try Replace Section.

These are listening hypotheses, not an official troubleshooting guarantee. Compare the reference, the first verse and the chorus separately; “sounds like me” and “sings the way I want” are different judgments.

Common questions

Why is the Voices option unavailable?

Suno's help center lists location restrictions and an age requirement of 18 or older. Check the feature in your account rather than assuming that changing a prompt will unlock it. Source: Voices FAQ.

Should I use a Custom Model instead?

Start with the feature that matches the asset you have: your voice recording for Voices, or a collection of your own tracks for a Custom Model.

Keep the Style draft and listening notes in MusicPrompt Studio, including which reference and actual Suno model you used. Voice recording, verification and generation take place in Suno.
